Release Day: Paranormal Transmissions - Episode 1:1 by Bella Roccaforte

8 de agosto de 2014

Synopsis
Welcome to Paranormal Transmissions! You are about to embark on the first episode of a novel-length serial--guaranteed cliffhanger-free--encompassing approximately 22,000 words of thrilling paranormal suspense (with a hefty side of humor). Buckle up and get ready to fly!

In Episode I:

Carl and McNab are paranormal investigators. Carl, a man of principle, has the best of intentions. His job is to keep paranormal beings under cover and out of mischief. McNab--young, impetuous, devil-may-care--will add his talents to Carl’s effort...as long as he gets paid.

McNab has a lot to learn--and a lot of growing up to do. But he does come up with a great idea to finance Carl’s exploits--a weekly reality program showcasing paranormal phenomena. To the delight of their cable TV audience, McNab and Carl wade through the seamy, murky waters of the Underside world, helping those in need, saving the blissfully unaware from the ravages of evil, and attempting to redeem their own mistakes--all without causing widespread panic!

In this first episode we join our heroes in the desert of Mexico trying to bury the body of a chupacabre--and McNab learns his lesson the hard way. After the chaos subsides, Carl notices some suspicious activity in a small North Carolina town--several suicides followed by an odd wave of philanthropy. Both investigators agree--all fingers point to a “pusher.” But what they find catches them both off guard.

Those readers familiar with Bella Roccaforte’s INK: series will recognize Carl and McNab as favorite characters, but all readers will love their early exploits, which take place long before the INK: series begins. Come and find out what happened before McNab met Shay in Seattle!

Cover Reveal: FALLING FOR FATE by Caisey Quinn

7 de agosto de 2014

The second book in the Second Chance series by Caisey Quinn has a cover!

While the series is made up of standalone novels featuring different couples, it does center around a location: The Second Chance Ranch, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility owned by Trace Corbin and Gretchen Gibson from the Kylie Ryans series. Here's what Caisey had to say about the series!

Caisey: I really love writing this series because with each new novel I get a new story to build around the ranch. The overlap between characters in each book is a lot of fun for me, even though readers don't always catch them. It's almost like a hidden treasure. For instance, Fate's mom appears briefly in Van's story (Last Second Chance), but as the books are released approximately 3-4 months apart, not everyone remembers those details. It's such a treat for me knowing that they're in there!

Readers have asked if they will see Trace and Kylie in this series and they will! Trace will pop in from time to time and then towards the end of the series they'll both attend a celebratory dinner at the Ranch.

While Last Second Chance was pretty hot, with tortured soul musician Van Ransom, Falling for Fate is a bit on the sweeter side. Though y'all know me, there will still be plenty of steam! Dean and Fate have a chance encounter and then meet again unexpectedly. While they're both young professionals, having very different relationship backgrounds and experiences leaves them a bit out of their league when it comes to one another.

I am so in love with this cover because my characters meet on the beach and I asked the designer (Regina Wamba of Mae I Design) to give it an ocean water feel. She did such a wonderful job! I hope y'all like it as much as I do!

Blog Tour: Between Heaven & Hell by Jacqui Nelson

Synopsis
On a trail full of danger, will he guide her to heaven or hell?

Fort Leavenworth, Kansas – 1850

Hannah knows one thing the moment she enters Fort Leavenworth—she's arrived in Hell. But inside is the means to a new life, a position as a scout on a wagon train bound for the Western Territories. All she has to do is convince the wagon master, Paden Callahan, she's the right person for the job.

After his wife was murdered by the Comanche, Paden let his work as a Texas Ranger consume him. Now he wants nothing more than to disappear into the West. Unfortunately, the one man he can't refuse has asked him to guide a wagon train full of tenderfoots across thousands of miles of Indian land. But Paden's greatest challenge turns out to be Hannah, a woman his heart won't allow him to ignore even though she was raised by an enemy he hates.

Excerpt
Fort Leavenworth, Kansas—Spring 1850
Lord help her, for she had entered Hell. That Hannah had sought guidance from the God of her past made her loneliness increase tenfold. She should’ve prayed to Grandfather Spider.

“Well, what’a we got here?” someone yelled from behind her. The voice was rough with malicious undertones.

“Don’t reckon I know,” replied another man. “Though she be a purty lil’ yellow-haired thing.”

“Maybe, but we’d hafta get them injun’ clothes off her to tell fer sure.”

Hannah stiffened in her saddle but kept her buckskin-clad knees tight against White Cloud’s sides, urging him forward. She fought the need to tug down the frayed cuffs of her wool coat or touch the beads and feathers in her belt for comfort.

Don’t react, she told herself. Don’t make eye contact. Don’t turn back.

A mountain man, the size of a bear, spat a foul-smelling stream of brown chewing tobacco in front of White Cloud’s path. He sneered at Hannah with lips stretched over rotting teeth.

Behind him on a saloon porch, a trio of dusty cowhands rose from their card game, waved their whiskey bottles at her and hollered, “Ooh-wee, lovey! Come on down from yer horse. Let us show you a good time.”

Strident feminine laughter filled the air. Hannah’s gaze darted heavenward to discover a row of women dressed in corsets and short calico skirts. They leaned over the balcony railing, watching her with black-rimmed eyes full of disdain.

If she ignored them, maybe they’d leave her alone. Or maybe coming to Fort Leavenworth hadn’t been such a good idea. She had no choice. She couldn’t turn back.

About Somewhere Between Water and Sky

I heard it said once that every human is a story with skin. If this is true, paragraphs would be etched in the scars on my wrists. Whole chapters could be written about the way my heart pounds when I startle awake. And every single one of my tears could fill a book. But stories, with all their promise, only leave room for disappointment. I don’t have room for that anymore. I left it all—the hope, the love, the promise—back in my old life with the ghosts I’d rather forget: Jude. Emma. Pacey. This is how I dare to move forward and to believe in a new beginning. I let go of the old. I just grab the new and run. I don’t wait around anymore. I can’t. Waiting leaves room for the voices. Somewhere between water and sky, I'll find a way to burn these voices to the ground.

I heard it said once that every human is a story with skin. If this is true, paragraphs would be etched in the scars on my wrists. Whole chapters could be written about the way my heart pounds when I startle awake. And every single one of my tears could fill a book. I watch the people sitting around me on the bus. The single mother with two rowdy toddlers, the older couple on vacation with cameras strapped to their necks, the boy rapping beats under his breath and writing in a journal—all of them breathe into this poetry of life. Normally, I’d want to know their stories. I’d wait for hints of who they were inside, the poetic shifts that make us human. Now I just watch. The boy rapping pauses with his hand in mid air and thinks for a minute. Breaking into a smile, he nods vigorously and lowers his hand to his paper. I frown. I used to have a piece of that poetry inside. It’s just all a little broken now. I don’t know how to fix the one thing that used to put me back together. The poems still come; I just don’t know what to do with them anymore. If I’m feeling particularly brave, I’ll attempt to scratch them into a journal. Usually, I just write them with my finger on my jeans. No one needs to read them anyway. Besides, I can’t hold on to them for very long. The silence is on fire and the sentences and scenes that used to extinguish those flames do nothing but fan it hotter and brighter. I’m a new person here—no one knows anything about me. All of my journals are in various trash cans around the city. I fill one up and then throw it away, shedding the skin and finding someone new underneath every single time. This is how I dare to move forward and believe in a new beginning. I let go of the old. I just grab the new and run. I don’t wait around anymore. I can’t. Like clockwork the words disappear at dusk empty cans filled up like dust. Rapper boy looks back up and catches me watching him and then offers a shy smile. My fingers pause their lines and curl in to the protection of my hand. I flip my lips upward into a quick grin and then look away before he can strike up a conversation. I don’t want to know his story. Stories, with all of their promise, only leave room for disappointment. I don’t have room for that anymore. I left it all—the hope, the love, the promise—back in my old life with the ghosts I’d rather forget: Jude. Emma. Pacey. Something like grief catches in my throat and a small burst of air escapes through my parted lips. I miss him. I miss him and I can’t miss him. If I give into these feelings…this emptiness…I shake my head and wipe the stray tear on my cheek. This is ridiculous. Reaching into my bag, I pull out my phone. One missed call shows itself on the screen and I frown. No one has my number. I swipe the screen open and scroll through until I notice UNKNOWN NUMBER in red font. Red like blood. I shudder. After the life I’ve lived, I’m nothing if not over-dramatic. It’s whatever. I feel I’ve earned it. With a few more quick swipes, I delete the notification and sigh the misgiving away. There’s no voicemail, and so there’s nothing to worry about yet. No harm, no foul. No one knows your number. No one knows your number. I’ve learned different but I’m choosing another way of living. I repeat these phrases in my head, tapping the rhythm of the words on my knee.
