Book Highlight: Goji by Sara-Beth Cole

Title: Goji
Author: Sara-Beth Cole
Series: Reality Series #1
Genre: YA, paranormal
Published: May 9, 2014

After spending six years in hiding, Calista Barron is discovered, but not by her brutal adoptive parents who had caused her to flee.

Callie learns that her birth mother was a Moira, one of the three sisters who rule a hidden world of supernatural creatures. Callie discovers her new Reality with the help of a young clairvoyant named Shyla and her protector, a secretive Goji named Bale who has become Callie's own personal gargoyle.

Now, it's up to Callie to destroy her aunts and free the Hands of Fate from an eternity of slavery.

“Close the door, Calista, and lock it until I tell you that you’re safe,” Bale ordered in a tone that terrified her.

Callie automatically obeyed. The horrific sounds from the fight on the other side of the door grew louder before stopping altogether.

“Calista, stay in your room,” Bale repeated. His voice darkened with anger.

Indignation mixed with curiosity. Callie unlocked her bedroom door and cried out at the wreckage. Three men lay dead on her living room floor. Bale stood above one of them, holding a large purple vial. The sound of her yell did not distract him from pouring a single drop of the liquid onto the first body before doing the same to the other two. Within seconds, the men were engulfed in a thick, acrid mist. The mist dissipated leaving nothing behind.

“I told you to stay in your room.” Bale capped the vial. He held it by the chain attached to the cap and placed it over his head, letting it dangle from his neck.

“Who-who were they? Why did you kill them?” Callie’s voice trembled as much as her body.

“Bloodhounds. If I didn’t kill them, they would have killed you.”

Sara-Beth Cole lives in Michigan with her husband, two children, dog, and cat. She loves reading and learning about biology. She is an expert coffee-drinker and collects local art.

Chapter 1
Cameron Pierce didn't really know what to expect when the entire nightmare began days before his eighteenth birthday, but here he was, standing behind a large metal door waiting for it to open and grant his freedom. Nine years, eight months, two weeks, and five days of hell. Even though he had to stay in a designated halfway house for the next few months, at least he wouldn't have these bars or barbed wire fences to constantly remind him of his nightmare.
He fidgeted. In exchange for almost ten years of his life, the prison system gave him a hundred bucks for expenses during transfer, and a plain, standard-issue cardboard box containing his personal items—a watch, ten bucks, and a pack of gum. Everything broken or useless, which pretty much mirrored his existence. He ditched the box and everything else then pocketed the cash.
The gears of the large metal door ground as they inched open. Cameron shifted his weight from foot to foot, waiting for just enough space to squeeze through the door. He looked over to the guard and concluded he'd be better off attempting to walk out of this prison with a little dignity. At the pace these doors opened, he figured he'd age another decade in the process. He closed his eyes and counted, begging for a little patience to come his way. He finally heard the grinding stop and opened his eyes.
There, in the middle of the empty parking lot, Sam leaned against a car with crossed arms and a smile.
Cameron groaned as he finally exited the prison gates.
Mr. Samuel Issacs, rehabilitation officer, also secretly campaigned for sainthood every chance he had. His job was to help a group of assigned inmates rejoin the world with others but his mission was to mentor them. Sam wanted to talk, help, and offer support. Cam, on the other hand, knew better than to open his mouth, and he damn sure wasn't going to risk Sam becoming some form of collateral damage.
Cam had learned that lesson the hard way.
"Hey, Sam," he said once he arrived where Sam was parked.
"Hey, Cam. I thought I'd give you a ride to the halfway house instead of having you take the bus," he said as he opened the passenger side door of the car.
Cameron waited, not sure if sitting in a car for hours with Saint Sam was a good idea.
"C'mon, Cam. I can guarantee you the drive with me will be better than a busload of people coming back from Universal Studios with stinky feet and a crapload of gas."
Cameron groaned.
Sam laughed. "Besides, I already filled out the paperwork so you're stuck with me. Get in."
Cam didn't say a word. He climbed into the car, sat in the passenger seat, and then closed the car door.
"Buckle up, it's the law."
"Are you kidding me?"
"Nope, state of Florida, it's the law."
"Since when?"
"Just strap in so we can get out of here."
Cameron groaned again as he pulled the belt and clicked it in place. He hated the way it cut into his damn shoulder. Who knew what else had changed while he was in prison. Just another reminder of things he had missed. He shifted in his seat only to have his movement limited by the seat belt restraint.
Wonderful.
Here he was, finally out of prison, yet somehow still found a way to be constrained in a small enclosed area. Hell, this was even smaller than the six-by-eight cell he’d called home for almost a decade.
How ironic.

Jaime Reese is the alter ego of an artist who loves the creative process of writing, just not about herself. Fiction is far more interesting. Hunter stood in line and watched Cam tend to the few lingering post-lunchtime customers. Cam's smile came a little easier and his stance less guarded.
His body, although still lean, was tighter and a little broader from the yard work at the halfway house. A slight tan colored his skin now, the faint golden tone further accentuating the blue in his eyes and the white of his smile. His hair had a sprinkling of highlights as if the sun had kissed his head. Sunrises gave him hope, but they also seemed to awaken a natural physical beauty that had been hidden for far too long.
"How can I help you? Sir," Cam said when it was finally Hunter's turn at the register.
Hunter leaned over the counter. "You know that drives me nuts."
Cam smiled and grabbed Hunter's tie to pull him closer. "I know." After a quick peck, Cam released him.
Hunter reached over and rubbed Cam's stubble. "Are you letting this grow out?"
Cam shrugged. He looked away and scratched his growing scruff. "It makes me look older."
"Since when do you want to look older?"
Cam shrugged again and fidgeted with the receipts.
Realization finally hit Hunter. He grabbed Cam's chin and forced him to make eye contact. "Are you doing that for me?"
Cam's mouth narrowed and his brows lowered. "There's not much I can do for you. So if growing some hair on my face will make you feel a little less self-conscious, then I'll grow a full fucking beard if I have to."

Blog Tour: The Madam by M. Robinson

Some people need love…

I need sex, money, control, and power.

Anyone could have those four things, but only one could have VIP. Becoming Madam was never a choice for me, it was a mandated order from the most powerful woman I knew- my mother. I was born to fill her shoes, never to make mistakes, or to show weakness.

You are the product of your environment. They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree; you learn from what you see, not from what you're told. Nature vs. Nurture. I learned from it all; what I saw, what I didn't see, what I was told, and from reading between the lines.

I was raised with the belief that the world spun ONLY because of me. I held power as far back as I can remember, saw things no one ever talks about, and witnessed illegal acts of sex, drugs, and money by the time I was eighteen.

You saw a glimpse of me in VIP, now see it from the beginning. Enter my world where anything goes; no judgments, no remorse, no guilt. You play by my rules, or you don’t play at all. There are no limits to what I can do, or to what I can show you…I will ensure my legacy my any means necessary.

My name is Lilith Veronica Stone, and I am The Madam.

Warning: Book contains adult situations.
Dark content/sex/drugs/language. Mature readers only.

32 year old Sebastian Vanwell, was a very successful yacht broker, who always loved the design and architecture of a luxurious boat. His only addiction was being on the water. He loved it, he thrived on it, and he needed it in his life. After a very stable, loving childhood with only a few bumps, Sebastian married the love of his life. The one person that he knew would always be there. Julia was his rock, and he loved her more than life itself. Sebastian kept his addiction to the water under control, wanting to keep his time with his wife and son his number one obsession, that was until he saw her. This new addiction haunted him, the one compulsion that he couldn't control no matter how hard he tried.

Ysabelle Telle hit him hard, knocking the wind from his lungs. Coming from worlds apart, beautiful, dark complexion Ysabelle Telle didn't have the rich, protected background that Sebastian Vanwell had. Ysabelle lived a life of hell, in poverty, growing up with a drug addict mother that never cared, and horrific living conditions. Ysabelle lived for one person and one person only; herself. She was pure perfection, her beauty along with a flawless body had men lined up, driveling over her ensuring her success as a VIP.

There are too many words that describe the effects when two diverse worlds like theirs collide. They both have too much to lose to get caught in the forceful pull, which could destroy them both.

Jax either started pulling her toward him or she started leaning toward him, she wasn’t sure which. The way his thumb delicately stroked her wrist scattered her alcohol-soaked wits, and it took her a few seconds to remember to breathe. Bre stared at his mouth; completely fascinated by the sensual curve of his lips and she just barely resisted the urge to wet her own lips in anticipation. With his mouth only inches from hers, he whispered, “You can’t look at me like that, Bre. I’m trying to be good. I know you’re Cam’s girl and the band’s important to me, but there’s only so much I can resist, and when you look at me like that I want to ignore all the reasons why kissing you is a really bad idea.” Unable to speak, she closed her eyes, trying to regain her senses, but it was hard when she could feel his heated gaze and his warm bourbon breath tickling her face. She knew the rational thing to do was push him away, but she didn’t want to. His lips brushed hers, moving slowly, causing a tingling sensation that she suspected wasn’t a figment of her imagination. “Hmmm...” she murmured, draping her arms carelessly over his shoulders, breathing in the smell of him, wanting to be closer to him, wanting more of him, wanting to forget everything but him. As he wrapped his arms around her waist, his tongue caressed hers once, then twice, and then his fingers began tracing the skin on her thigh just below her hemline at an indecently slow pace. Just as he started lowering her to the floor, inching his body between her legs, she heard laughter outside the still open door. Bre’s eyes popped open. “Jax always hides out in his room when he gets in his moods.” Bre froze, recognizing Katie’s shrill voice. “Maybe he knows where Bre is. I haven’t seen her for over three hours.” “Probably not, you know how Jax is with his personal space.” Bre’s eyes blinked in confusion. Then, suddenly she scrambled backwards and onto her feet, nearly tripping over the almost empty bottle of bourbon. “It’s Cam,” she mouthed to Jax, bracing her hands on the footboard of his bed, completely shaken, but oddly disappointed by the loss of contact with him.
