Release Day Blitz: Heaven in You by Elizabeth Corva

5 de abril de 2014

2003 was a wild year for Jasmine Ashcroft and Jonathan Fox. Betrayal. Tragedy. Breakups. Reunions. And way too many long-haul flights. Now Jasmine and Jonathan just want to get away from it all for a little while. What better place to celebrate their first Christmas together than an out-of-the-way cabana in the Riviera Maya? No electricity, no phones, no paparazzi. Just sea, sunshine, and--hopefully--lots of shagging.

But like the most tenacious of groupies, mayhem follows the Strange Angels frontman everywhere…even to paradise. If Kit and his Wild One want their newfound relationship to survive this vacation, they’re going to need a lot of trust, strength, and patience. And tequila. Mucho tequila.

Warning! This novella is for readers 18+ only due to drug references, mature language, and lots of steamy Rock star sex.

Elizabeth Corva worked in the music industry for 14 years before moving to the relatively sane and stable world of defense contracting. She has collected a road case full of stories that she uses as inspiration for her novels.

The Angel Interceptor series was conceived as the sun was setting on Hair Metal, born during the early days of fictionpress, and came of age in 2013 when the author finally worked up the nerve to try self-publishing. All of Elizabeth's works are dedicated to the men who play Metal and the women who love them, even though they should know better.

Before I can start, Phillip has his arms around me and has my back pressed to his chest. “I am not joking to you. I know we just met, but this feels right. You and me just feel right. I can’t explain it. It does. We can hang out together and take it slow, but believe me, I want you to be with me.” He keeps his arms around me, holding me close to him. I feel his heart beating as hard and fast as mine. This does feel right, but I am so scared to get close to him. I said that I would let things happen, but now I don’t know if I can. I’m scared of what might happen to me.

He looks into my eyes smiling and starts kissing me all over my face before he starts moving to my neck. I really like this too much and never want him to stop. He keeps going down to my shoulder, and I shiver with each kiss. I feel his kisses it all the way to my toes. This makes me wonder how it will feel if he keeps kissing me farther down, and I welcome it because I want to know the feeling. He knows what he is doing that is for sure.

The six white squares of paper lay like fallen tombstones on the table. Slowly, almost ponderously, Trudy Tucker moved her left hand toward them. Her tapered fingers hovered two or three inches above the table, and then she moved her hand back and forth as she closed her eyes.
Within seconds, the tingling blossomed in her fingertips, but she continued the sweeping movement as the sensation traveled up her arm. Because she wanted to be certain. She had to be certain. Lives depended on it. A dark substance poured through her mind and she felt as if it coated her face until she thought she might be smothered by it. She sucked in a breath and willed herself not to panic. This was all part of the process, she told herself. She had been schooled in this. She could control this now.
The comforting words she repeated to herself settled her, soothed her, so that she could push through the discomfort and decipher the signals that tingled from her fingertips to her brain. Flickering scenes of horror passed behind her eyelids. She made herself look. She made herself see. Although everything within her screamed for her to turn away, to block out the inhuman scenes, she stayed there. She observed. She witnessed until she was secure in what she was sensing and in what she now knew to be true.
Plucking four of the white squares from the others, she opened her eyes again. The police interrogation room swam into view, reminding her of what was expected of her and that she wasn’t alone. She had an audience of two people and she quelled the feeling of being looked at as if she were a circus freak. Methodically, she moved the two remaining pieces of paper farther apart. The tingling remained strong, winding its way along her whole hand and twisting up to her wrist. Yes, she had it right.
“These two are definitely involved,” she said, looking across the table at the police detectives who watched her intently. “I feel strongly that the one on the right is the murderer and the other one watched. I . . . I believe they both raped . . . I mean, I know that they both raped the woman.” She took a deep, cleansing breath to erase the rest of the dark blot from her mind. “But this man . . .” She tapped her index finger on one of the mug shots. “This man strangled her.” She pushed the others across the table toward the two detectives, eager to be done with them. The youngest officer, Ramon Martinez, reached out and flipped over the pictures.
“Well, I’ll be damned.” Detective Hal Bernardo chuckled. “Look at that.”
Martinez eyed Trudy with dark brown eyes that called her everything but honest. “How’d you do that? Who you been talking to out there?” He jerked his head in the direction of the squad room.
“No one,” Trudy said, keeping her voice and gaze level.

Excerpt:

The rain fell in sheets around me, it was gloomy and depressing, but I didn’t feel a drop. I was completely encased in light; I was a moving, breathing, flaming yellow orb that no one could penetrate. I watched in amazement as my broken leg instantly healed and the torn pajama fabric cinched itself back together. My jaw pain ceased. I closed my hands over the amulet, now humming with intensity. In a split second, I was vibrating with the same power. The wind picked up and the sky loomed black. The moon lay dark behind an inky sky and somehow strange chanting words flowed out of me. Lava hot and fraught with meaning, they rose to a fever pitch. Every word was a part of me, part of my being. Words from another time, Tanga’s time, slipped from my lips as though it were my native tongue. It was the inscription on the amulet, of that much I was sure.
I stretched my glowing hands out to Thomas.
I call on you Lady Isis.
     Protect Me.
For I am the one, the Soul of the Sun.
I plead with you and your son Horus to give refuge.
Patroness of Nature and Magic bring all my power and your power together to glorify
what is right and true in this world.
Honor your name and those we safeguard from harm. Let time be taken from no man.
   Amen.”
   He was laughing at me.
“You stupid little twit, did you honestly think that would work? You think that I can’t take what’s mine?”
As he spoke, I chanted the same words, repeating them over and over. I saw fear cross his face just for a moment when he realized I was using the amulet’s power. A brilliant beam of light continued to radiate from my core. It was strange, the light now shone gold instead of blue. It must have changed when it sealed together. I continued to watch and to my astonishment, he became transparent and, with a puff of smoke, evaporated into the heavens. I could hear his heart-rending screams echoing through the ocean’s storm. Drained completely of energy, I crumpled, exhausted, onto the sand.

Genres: Adult, Science Fiction

When Mia Mitchell, a hardcore but lonely former Marine, steps into an alley to pull some thugs off an unlucky foreigner, she walks into a fight she expects. What she doesn’t see coming is the foreigner making her a job offer any sane person would refuse. So, she takes it. She thinks she’s headed for some third-world country; instead she’s mysteriously transported to an Earth-like parallel world. That’s a mad left-hook.
Mia discovers a matriarchal dystopia where freedom doesn’t exist and fighting for it means execution. Lethal force bends all to the law; women fear for their families and un-wed men suffer slavery. Mia’s job is to train an underground syndicate of male freedom-fighters for a violent revolution. However, the guys don’t want a pair of X chromosomes showing them the way.

Eben, an escaped slave, is encouraged by Mia to become a leader among the men. But when he turns his quiet determination on her, it spells F.U.B.A.R. for cynical Mia. Their unexpected connection threatens more than her exit strategy; it threatens the power struggle festering with in the syndicate.

Haunted by nightmares and post-traumatic stress, unsure who to trust or how to get home, Mia struggles to stay alive as she realizes all is not what it seems.

Nothing could prepare me for what I read in this book... this is totally out of my comfort zone yet it's an amazing book to be read.

Stella has create a unique world, this is truly UNIQUE and ORIGINAL, you won't see -or at least I don't- another book with this kind of storyline.

There's a parallel world where Women dominated and Men are slaves, totally opposite to our world, can you imagine us being the one in charge? the world being rule by women? the slang women rule the world is true in this different yet amazing book, women are tall, and muscular and taught to fight and men are slim, pretty femenisn, boyish are slave, concubines who are often castrated to keep the boyish look. and I can only applaude the amazing mind of Stella.

So in this parallel world we met Eben who has escape his destiny of being a slave and went to the "right world" -our world- and find Mia a former marine to teach him and other men how to fight against the matriarchal dystopia where they lives.

i really enjoyed this book and highly recommended to everyone who loves a dystopia that is well written, where the characters are well develope and the world is amazingly done and built.

All my life I’ve dreamed of stories or have had my nose buried in one. I live in Edmonton, Canada with my husband and my weird sense of humor. Across the Wire is my first novel.

I love old war movies, dystopian fiction, and any story with action, a good plot, and characters I'd get into a fight at the pub for. Not that I'm a brawler or anything. Unless you think that out-of-print book or vintage piece at the thrift shop is going home with you instead of me. Then, my friend, the gloves are off.

Some say if you have your nose buried in a book, you're missing out on life. I say my nose is buried in a book because one life is not enough.
